A few months back we brought
you the interview of Farrah Bokhari, who had ventured
into something we all wish we had the courage to do.
She has formed an NGO in Pakistan with the name 'A
New Beginning'.
Farrah's first project has been to adopt a government
school that had been neglected and forgotten. This
organization not only adopts the school but in a way
adopts the children, their parents and the entire
village. The program feeds the children breakfast
and lunch during the school hours and teaches them
the importance of hygiene and staying clean. Parents
of the children also benefit as they are taught various
skills and knowledge. Prior to intervention by Farrah's
organization, the school and children were in absolute
deplorable conditions; there were no desks or chairs
for the children to sit in, and the teacher rarely
showed up. Though these are 'government' schools,
the Pakistani government does absolutely nothing for
these children, in fact, there are hardly any teachers
and all the children from nursery to class 5 are all
crammed into one classroom.
It has not been an easy road for Farrah; lack of funds
is one problem, but finding honest and dedicated people
to help run the show when you are out of the country
is nearly impossible.
This week, Farrah sent us some before and after pictures
of the progress made for the school. We thought we
should share with you the dedication of this remarkable
woman and we hope that you will be inspired to do
something similar, or maybe contribute towards this
cause by helping with funds or volunteering for the
project. Please help us spread the word about this
incredible new beginning in the lives of many forgotten
children of Pakistan.
We will look forward to your feedback, if you would
