Iguana Mexican Restaurant

In the heart of theatre District, what first attracted me enough to want to go inside and check out this restaurant was the 30 ft Iguana sculpture that is stuck on the outside of the restaurant building (unfortunately it wasn’t lighted on the evening we went there for dinner so no picture to share). Once inside, I loved the décor, very authentic yet different and elegantly brought together. As you pass the bar to your left, there is a lovely waterfall cascading down silently, and the whole place is decorated in dim lighting that comes from the beautiful colorful glassware lanterns and tiny, hanging Christmas white lights. The original artwork by a native Mexican artist is stunningly gorgeous & adorns all the walls throughout the restaurant.

I thoroughly enjoyed the food, especially the guacamole (made with ripened haas avocados, tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, cilantro and fresh lime) that’s prepared right at the table. Admittedly the best tasting guacamole which is prepared to your taste so anything can be added or taken away while it’s being put together.

We ordered steak quesadillas which was made with roasted corn and Monterrey Jack cheese topped with avocado corn salsa and steak. Surprisingly light and not at all heavy despite the cheese on it. If you’re really hungry, try their stacked enchiladas, which are layered with Monterey jack and chipotle chile sauce and served with a generous helping of rice and beans. The sauce was delicious and not too spicy, but if you want it spicier, you can ask for their red sauce which is wicked in taste but won’t burn the tongue or the palate. All this is served by two different waiters who are never too far away from the table. Perfect service, I must say.

For dessert lovers, their best dessert was the rich Chocolate Mousse with fresh berries. It was layered with the dark chocolate at the bottom, then a thick layer of the milk chocolate, and a huge topping of whipped cream and strawberries and raspberries thrown in and around the dessert. Forget dieting or share it with someone as it will be hard to stop after the first bite!! All in all, a wonderful experience!!
